Red Rose return home for County Championship

County Cricket returns to the Emirates Old Trafford this Friday as Lancashire entertain Somerset in their third game in the County Championship.

Lancashire have enjoyed a positive start to the season without getting a win but dominating large parts of their matches against Essex and Surrey.

Lancashire saw Essex bat out the final day for a draw at Chelmsford in the opening round before making highly-fancied Surrey follow-on at the Kia Oval earlier this week.

But now they will be hoping to emphasise that point with a victory when they return home to Emirates Old Trafford against last season’s title challengers Somerset, starting tomorrow.

If Glen Chapple’s men can secure victory against a Somerset side which lost their opener to Essex at Taunton earlier this week, it will be their first Championship win in 14 outings dating back to an innings and 96-run win over Surrey at Old Trafford last May.

Lancashire welcome back England fast bowler Jimmy Anderson after he was rested from the Surrey draw by the England management while with Steven Croft still injured, Liam Livingstone will continue to lead the side.

Coach Glen Chapple has backed Jordan Clark to kick on from his superb career best 140 against Surrey after the all-rounder contributed heavily to a fightback from early strife at 67-5 on day one.
