Salford Red Devils winger Justin Carney could be facing a eight game ban after being sent off during Sunday’s cup tie against Toronto.

Carney was dismissed in the first half by referee Jack Smith and has been charged with racial abuse.

It is thought he was shown the red card for comments directed at Toronto’s former Leeds prop forward Ryan Bailey.

The club in a statement issued yesterday said they have launched a investigation into events leading to the dismissal of winger Justin Carney in today’s 29-22 win over Toronto Wolfpack in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup.

The Club will work closely with the RFL and all parties involved over the coming days to investigate the incident thoroughly.

Neither the Red Devils nor the player will be releasing any further comment at this stage.
