Lancs fall short in the Roses one day battle

Lancashire were second best in this tie at Headingley and fell to their second one day defeat of the season.

After winning the toss and putting the home team in, Ryan McLaren had seemingly put the Red Rose in the driving seat claiming the early wickets of Bairstow,Lyth and Root but a fourth wicket Partnership between Gary Ballance and Australian Peter Handscombe of 143 turned the game in what proved to be a decisive partnership.

Seven wickets then fell for just 66 runs as Lancashire restricted the home team to 296 at the halfway mark after it looked likely that the white rose would easily pass 300.

Lancashire never really looked in in reply, early wickets tumbled and a fine display of spin bowling by Rashid and Rafiq pegged the Red Rose back, and despite from lusty blows from McLaren,Vilas and Clarke were dismissed with nearly seven overs remaining,
