There was no stopping Belle Vue in their storming performance against Mildenhall on Friday as they raced to an emphatic 65-25 victory with three of their riders recording maximum scores.

Rentruck Aces’ stars Dan Bewley and Jack Smith each put in paid maximums of 11+1 and 14+1 respectively while skipper Lee Payne raced to a full 15-point maximum from five appearances.

With three league points firmly in the bag, the Cool Running Colts now move up to second in the National League table behind Birmingham, much to the delight of team boss Steve Williams.

He said: “You always hope you can do enough on your home track to beat the opposition and in fairness to Mildenhall, they had some big hitters who, on paper, made us think it’d be a tough night.

“But this Belle Vue team tonight excelled themselves. It was a manager’s dream, not only the result but the performance of all the riders. They just got on with the job and were absolutely flying.

“From top to bottom they all played their part. We talked early doors about avoiding as many last places as we could and we only put in three. If you can do that, you can win meetings like these.”

As well as the top guns’ impressive performances it was a successful night for the team’s younger members, in particular Luke Woodhull who did remarkably well to salvage a back flip in progress!

Williams continued: “Luke had quite a interesting fall in Heat 8 and myself and Graham [Goodwin] were wondering how long he could hold onto the bike! He was horizontal, then vertical at one point!

“It’s all part of the learning process though. We’ve got some great talent and some fantastic experience in this team and our hope is these young guys will tap into that as the season goes on.

“The spirit in our camp is second to none and when you’re spoilt with a track like we have, things come together quite nicely and I’m certain there’s even bigger things for this team on the horizon.”
