Celebrate making it through to hump day with some mid-week comedy and cocktails at Mad Men inspired bar

Northern Quarter’s Mad Men-esque venue, The Pen and Pencil, is giving its guests an even bigger reason to celebrate hump day with the announcement of its first mid-week comedy night, The Lead Balloon.

The Lead Balloon, starting on Wednesday 24th May from 7:30pm, will star comedic genius Meryl O’Rourke as the headlining act, best known for her work with Radio 4, BBC, Channel 4 and Dave, as well as being the regular support act of infamous comedian Frankie Boyle – at his request, might we add.

The night, hosted by stand-up comedian Red Redmond, will be filled with even more comedic entertainment with three sets from adopted Mancunian Pete Phillipson, polemical satirist Chris Kehoe, and the outrageous Ben Sutton, guaranteeing a night of belly laughs, cocktails, and food.

The Lead Balloon comedy night opens on Wednesday 24th May at 7:30pm. Tickets cost £5 on the night – capacity is strictly limited, so book early to avoid disappointment.

The Pen & Pencil’s new food menu is also available from 10am–9pm every Monday to Thursday, giving mid-week visitors the perfect opportunity to chow down on some tasty new dishes, from Steak Frites, Sliders, Sandwiches, Skewers and Salads. Thirsty guests are recommended to try the bar’s new cocktails, including the Manchester Iced Tea, for a twist on the classic, the Key West Cooler, like a Slush Puppie, but cooler, the Portobello Pornstar, and more.
