Comedians Tim Key and Mark Thomas complete the line up for MIF17’s comedy strand, Machynlleth Comes to Manchester.

Key and Thomas join a programme featuring established acts such as Sara Pascoe and Mark Watson plus new faces and local names including Gein’s Family Gift Shop and Brennan Reece.

Tim Key visits MIF fresh from a leading role in Art at London’s Old Vic. The laconic, quietly absurdist Edinburgh Comedy Award-winning poet and stand-up returns two years after a star turn at MIF15’s Invisible Dot Cabaret.

Mark Thomas presents Predictable, a show that literally gambles on the future. One of the most provocative and powerful voices in British comedy sets out to predict the future by asking audiences what they think is going to happen next…

This summer, a little bit of West Wales comes to Manchester as the Machynlleth Comedy Festival decamps for a weekend at MIF.

Every spring, 6,000 people descend on the tiny Welsh town of Machynlleth (population: 2,235) for one of Europe’s most delightful and unusual comedy events. The small but perfectly formed Machynlleth Comedy Festival encourages comics to experiment and have fun with their material in some very intimate venues, with shows staged everywhere from the local bowling club to the ancient Welsh parliament building.

The Machynlleth team are curating a series of shows at two intimate Manchester venues; this bijou festival-within-a-festival follows the success of MIF’s first foray into comedy in 2015 with promoters Invisible Dot.

“It’s a privilege for us to be taking everything that’s special about Machynlleth and relocating it to Manchester as part of this incredible programme of events.” Henry Widdicombe, Founder and Director, Machynlleth Comedy Festival

“There’s nowhere quite like Machynlleth, and we’re delighted to be hosting the team in Manchester for these special shows. We can’t offer camping but we can promise audiences some very funny comedians. I can’t wait.” John McGrath, Artistic Advisor & CEO
